SLJ W1 D3 - Team Players: Activity 3
For this activity we had to ask a family member what their dream job would be and then come up with 6 ways to help them achieve their dreams. This was quite a hard task to do but I think I have come up with some ways I can help.
SLJ W1 D3 -Team Players: Activity 2
The basketball player i would most like to interview is Stephen Curry because I think he is one of the best players in the world. Stephen Curry plays for the Golden State Warriors. If I could interview him I would ask him...
- What do you think the most important skills are to be a top basketball player?
- Who inspired you to be a basketball player?
- Do you think you would be as good a basketball player if you were short?
- What do you think you will do when your basketball career is over?
- What advice would you give to children who dream of being as successful as you?
I wonder what his answers would be?

For this activity I had to choose 3 superpowers I could have and what I would do with them. It was tricky choosing as there are many cool super powers.

SLJ W1 D2 - Up in the air: Activity 3 Miracle on the Hudson
Miracle on the Hudson
For this task I watched a you tube clip about Mr Chesley Sullenberger, or “Sully”. He became famous when he landed his aeroplane in the middle of the Hudson river and all 155 people on board survived. He had to make an emergency landing because the engines in his aeroplane lost power. Sully would have been scared when the engines lost power but he stayed calm, and saved the lives of everyone on board. He was very brave.
In my life I haven't had anything dramatic like this happen to show that I am brave but people can be brave in their own way in their ordinary lives. In my life some times that I have had to stay calm and be brave are:
- Starting in a new class each year
- Competing at the Nationals on my motorbike
- Going to get my immunisations
- Trying something new like when I started swimming club
- Making my speech at the Rotary Speech Competition
- Taking the OAR when I made a mistake at school and making things right.
All of these things help me to practice being brave so one day if I get in a difficult situation I will know how to be brave like Sully.

SLJ W1 D2 - Up in the Air: Activity 1 Flying solo
In this activity I had to find out what was the same and different about two famous female pilots. The activity was interesting because although I had heard of these pilots before I didn't know much about them. They both must have been very brave women to do what they did. I would like to learn to fly one day.

SLJ W1 D1 - Explorers: Activity 3
For this activity we had to choose a charity. I chose the Air Rescue Trust because they fund the rescue helicopter for the West Coast. This is important because then people can live their lives to the fullest and if they get hurt then the helicopter service is there to help. My uncle was rescued by the helicopter two years ago.

Setting Sail
Nainoa Thompson has used the ancient Polynesian way finding skills to navigate around the world. In 2013 him and his crew went across the Pacific Ocean on two large canoes. They used the stars, clouds, currents, sun and the moon to navigate. This DLO shows what I would take if I went with them.

The Big Shake Out
Last Thursday at 1:30 our school done the big shake out. We had to DROP COVER AND HOLD for 40 seconds then evacuate to the top of a hill near Grey Main School. The Principal talked about what to do in an earthquake and a tsunami then we walked back to class in and orderly fashion.
Here is a safety video demonstrating the safety position for during an earthquake.
It is important to practice what to do so you don't panic in a real emergency.

Myth
Hello,
This is my myth to explain a natural phenomena. I did mine about why we have thunder and lightning. I hope you enjoy it.
Many years ago in the land of the long white cloud Aotearoa
there lived a Maori chief named Lightning. He had two sons
Thun and Der. There usual routine was going pounamu hunting
with their father up the Mawheranui. Finally Thun and Der were
old enough to go by themselves. There father was reluctant to
letting them go however they really wanted to so he gave in.

letting them go however they really wanted to so he gave in.
Thun and Der set off on a day with the finest conditions. They left
early in the morning to go up the river on foot and planned to be
back by nightfall.

They didn’t have much luck so they decided to venture further up
river than they normally did. The further inland they went the
darker it got. The clouds in the sky closed in blocking the sun,
making it harder to see the path alongside the fast flowing river.
Suddenly Der lost his footing and slipped into the river.
Thun tried to save him but the pull of the Mawhera nui was to
powerful and dragged him as well. The two brothers were crying a
karakia to Tangaroa pleading for mercy but there cries were unheard
and they were dragged away never to be seen again.

Meanwhile back at the village Lightning was waiting for his two
sons to return. As darkness fell there was still no sign of them. He
was very anxious so he sent his warriors out to look for his beloved
sons but they returned empty handed.

Lightning was so desperate to find his sons he got his magical flint
and cast sparks into the stormy sky hoping to lead his sons home.
Then he called for them in his booming voice “THUN-DER!!!”

And so Lightning continues to call for his lost sons to this day
hoping one day they may still come home. That is why we see
lightning sparks and hear the booming THUN-DER on stormy
nights.

Brunner Mine
On monday the 25th March my class went to the historic Brunner Mine site. In my car the driver was my grandad and the two other kids were Zaheer and Adam. When we got there we met our guides Mrs Meers and Miss Baber from Shantytown.
First we got told what the rules were then we started the walk over the river. When we got to the main site we got split into two groups one that walked around the site and the other group had to dress up and research things on boards.
I got put in the second group we first had to read about what coal was made of. It is made of water carbon hydrogen and sulphur. Then we had to dress up and have a photo shoot I was a priest. When both groups finished we had morning tea then we switched I liked the walk the best we looked at the return airway right next to it was the original entry but it was not there it collapsed when they made the road but there was a sign that was the exact shape as the entry was.
Then we walked to the beehive coke ovens when we finished the walk then we had big lunch that took about 10 minutes I had sausage rolls. Then we drove to the Stillwater Cemetery to reenact the funeral.
I called out a couple of the miners names. We did a quiz and had to find some family plots. When we were finished we had to start the drive home. By the time we got back it was the end
the day so we went home it was a good day.

Geometry
Today in Maths we were working on geometry. We were given the word quadrilateral and we had to research what this meant. I did not know what a quadrilateral was but when I thought about the beginning of the word quad which means four it gave me a clue. Here is what I found out.
